A German tourist died one day after the lightning strike of the Sardinian island. Another person who died a few days ago by lightning died in hospital on Saturday, he told the Italian Civil Protection Agency. The number of fatalities has risen for seventeen years.
Many victims have been killed by falling trees. Coldiretti, the association of Italian farms, said the storm had damaged about 14 million trees, especially in the northern part of the country. "We will need at least a century to restore this natural damage," said the spokesman for the association.
